Mizzou Boots Kansas

Missouri got no respect from the BCS. When Oregon lost and the board got shuffled, West Virginia was leap-frogged ahead of the Tigers despite having the same number of losses. But Missouri fixed all that last night by defeating BCS number 2 Kansas 36-28, a win that will likely catapult them into the number 1 slot.

Missouri's long, winding road to the national championship game hasn't ended yet, as they still have to face Oklahoma for the Big 12 title. But it's been a great season for Missouri anyway. They haven't been this good since 1960, the last time they made no. 1 in a poll or captured a conference title. And they even have a Heisman contender in QB Chase Daniel, who likely won himself a trip to New York by throwing for 361 yards and 3 TDs against the Jayhawks.

Then there's Kansas, who will now drop out of the national title picture completely despite being one of the few one-loss teams remaining at the top of the polls. Their problem is the lack of signature wins, their only big victory having come against Kansas State, not exactly a powerhouse.

When the BCS rankings are released later today, Missouri and West Virginia will be the top 2 teams. Ohio State I imagine would be 3, followed by Georgia and probably Virginia Tech. The story there of course is that we're at the end of the season, and schools like USC, Oklahoma and Texas are nowhere in sight. Parity reigns - which is great for fans of Missouri and West Virginia, not so much for people who enjoy watching storied programs battle it out for supremacy.

Sorry, but it's hard to get inspired by the prospect of a Missouri/West Virginia national title game. I'd even take Ohio State at this point, just for the chance to watch them get squashed again.
