Roddick Can't Beat Federer in China Either

Andy Roddick can now add China to the long list of countries in which he's gotten his tail kicked by Roger Federer.

Today Federer took Roddick down 6-4, 6-2 in a Masters Cup match played in Shanghai. The match was basically meaningless in the grand Masters Cup scheme, as both players had already earned berths in the semi-finals. So maybe that's why Roddick decided to just phone it in. Or maybe he was actually playing his hardest just trying to beat Federer once and still got torched.

Roddick seems flummoxed as to why Federer always beats him. Roddick told reporters:

It seems like most times we play, he's on top of his game, which is a little annoying. I guess I just have to figure out what about my game brings out the best in him and try to adjust.

I thought Andy's new bulldog attitude, instilled in him by coach Jimmy Connors, was supposed to be the thing that finally got him over-the-hump against Federer. Guess not. Maybe his next move should be a new racket, one twice as large as Federer's. Then perhaps he'd have a shot.

Andy, by the way, may quickly get another chance against Federer. Roddick plays David Ferrer in the semi-finals this weekend while Federer faces his arch-rival Rafael Nadal. So it could be a Roddick/Federer final. I think we all know how that one will work out.
