West Virginia Wins Big East; Tennessee to SEC Title Game

The West Virginia Mountaineers claimed the Big East championship by whipping the upstart Connecticut Huskies 66-21. West Virginia QB Pat White had a huge game, throwing for 107 yards and 1 TD and running for 186 yards and 2 TDs. Most importantly, the Mountaineers upped their record to 10-1, keeping their National Championship hopes alive.

Even as West Virginia was adding to their BCS resume, the Georgia Bulldogs were seeing their hopes of a title shot disappear at the hands of the Tennessee Volunteers - and Georgia and Tennessee didn't even play each other. Georgia, who took care of their business by beating Georgia Tech 31-17, almost certainly needed to make the SEC title game and beat LSU to have any shot at claiming one of the top two spots in the BCS. But Tennessee had to lose to Kentucky for that to happen, and Tennessee in fact beat Kentucky 52-50 in four overtimes.

So now Tennessee will play LSU for the SEC championship, while Georgia waits to claim an at-large BCS bid. And Kentucky will have to think about what could've been after following up a 6-1 start, including a victory over LSU, by losing four of their last five.
